Life is like an eternal camping trip...

Camp Eternity

Every day for one thousand years
We sat on the clouds ignoring the sneers
Annoying the way-farers, stroking their fears
Bored to death for one thousand years.

God came near with a smile on his face
He asked us politely to leave his place
We joked and we prodded, what a disgrace
God left us alone with a frown on his face.

We snatched the good book with all of the names
Of all the good people from all different planes
The spirits of saints told us to stop playing games
But all we really wanted was to add our own names.

Night never fell in this pink cloudy land
We couldn’t escape the music of the sweet Cherub band
So we charged and we shouted, taking a stand
But no one would listen in this faraway land.

Gabriel with his trumpet and Michael with his sword
Passed by us one day looking awfully bored
“Hey, Michael,” we asked, “Let us see the Lord.”
But the mighty archangel chased us off with his sword.

We camped every day outside the golden gates
Prisoners of our own lousy fates
So we did something stupid that everyone hates
We started singing camp songs outside those golden gates.

Then God came to us when he’d had enough
He shouted, “Fine, you can come, just grab your stuff.”
We praised ourselves for calling his bluff,
Because God lets everyone in who sings loud enough.
