Sweet Romania
A poem about the Socialistic ravaging of Romania. |
| Romania, oh what you could have been Had you only known, That you were shaking hands with Satan They promised you food, equality, and money You starved in the streets while your leaders ate honey Everyone was to receive equal pay, You break your back, he sleeps all day You had no way of telling, That the sweet words they were spelling, Were actually blinding you, Socialism was the virus That corrupted all your minds, Made you fear your shadows, And forced you to take sides Here today, gone tomorrow, For merely saying something, Taken away and forgotten, Cause no one wanted to be next They told you what to do, They told you what to say, They told you what to think, And they took your souls away. They taught you hatred, cheating, lying, All previously foreign concepts, And they beat it into you till you lie there dying… Ce-ţi doresc eu ţie, dulce Românie, (What I wish for you, Sweet Romania) To forget the evils they taught you, And go back to how you were, Dulce Românie, asta ţi-o doresc. (Sweet Romania, this I wish for you) Loving, peaceful, kind, and true, That’s what Romania should have been… |
