Vanity Lost
A poem about woman who once used to be an arrogant and beautiful girl.

Her grey hair and aging face,
Those memories which bring disgrace,
Exhibit their sadness on her face.

Those beautiful days she still remembers;
Those moments she used to celebrate
Those unhealed wounds her heart still shows,

The unstitched cuts that humiliation gift,
She knows the place where darkness drifts,
All this caged in her thoughts until words find their way back to the start.

She is unsure of what went wrong,
How she lost those days of bird's song
Questions that might remain unanswered till she discovers her own faults.

That name with fondness her heart now chants,
She thought when said would bring her shame,
How wrong she was she did not know and now she would not let go

The only hand that held her right
Was one she always used to despise,
The words that quietened her life's gale are now weakly frail.

Her beauty now is replaced with wrinkles,
Her confidence creased with insulting crinkles,
Where is the joy that laughter can sprinkle?

What can cure the loss of honour
That beauty whenever lost brings,
She does not know and will not think.

Her black eyes bare,
Thoughts she will not share,
Those lost praising remarks she used to hold dear.

That devouring fire that took it all away,
Those pitiful words she remembers to this day.
Everything fresh in her mind but now she seeks a path divine.

She asks now for Almighty Allah's forgiveness,
Praying day and night with great willingness
Her thoughts and actions are now knitted in incredible stillness.
