I Meant to Tell You
A poem I wrote from my Mom's point of view after my Dad passed away.

I meant to tell you someday
I hope you know it's true
I meant to tell you someday
I just couldn't get the words through

I meant to tell you someday
But someday never came
I meant to tell you someday
There is only me to blame

For I really meant to tell you
I truly did I swear
It never once occured to me
That you would not be there

For though I watched you going
I never really knew
You truly went so slowly
I thought I had time to tell you

So many things unspoken
So many words to say
It's hard to say them to you
On this cold and dreary day

But say them now to you I must
Before the darkness falls
Upon the one I hold so dear
I say these words to all

I meant to tell you someday
And someday is now here
As you lie in death's embrace
I say I love you dear
