The Road Betwixt and Between

End over end. I flew through air, not with ease, but with my vehicle. The sensation was a freedom not tethered to gravity. Newton’s theory might differ. Something blinded me before…

“Here my lord, amongst the trees. Good lady, I pray thee do not move.”

I regretted opening my eyes and swiftly shut them. Huh? Reopening them, I attempted focus on an odd-looking face. “Did you say good lady?”

“Yes mistress, wouldst thou prefer queen?”

Mistress? Queen? Who was this joker anyway? “I think I was in an accident, did you find my car?”

“Car? Perchance dost thou mean carriage accident?”

Perchance? Sitting was futile. “Did you call an ambulance?”

“Shamus, give thy queen room, canst thou not see she is bewildered? Isleen, speak to mine ear that I may know thou art well.”

I gazed into beautiful green eyes. Rich mahogany hair fell in heavy waves past his shoulders. I took in the rest of the view. Oh…my…gosh, boots traveled a long way up his tights-covered legs. Wherever I was, the view was fantastic. “Who are you?”

He gave me a quizzical look. Shamus started talking. “I fear our mistress hit her head my lord, her speech is queer. Shall I petition one of the druids with us?”

“This might be warranted. Isleen, it is thy husband Devlin.”

“I’m your wife?” Wow, Devlin was a good-looking piece of medieval hunk. Marriage wouldn’t be so bad. That was just stupid.

A robed man bent over me as the others drew away. “Thou art not Isleen art thou?”

         “No, I’m confused. What happened?”

“Shimmering light preceded thy appearing. The veil between betwixt and between became translucent as thou passed through. The two worlds no longer remained divided.”

         “Like limbo?”

“Nay my child. The veil hast sealed. Thou wilt remain amongst us…forever.”
