Daddy had to go away
A few years ago.
It's been so long,
Since I 'member I saw him last.

Mommy used to pray
Before dinner, and
Before we went to bed,

And in her room
Oh, so dark and scary,
When she thought I was asleep.

It's okay, Mommy,
You told me Daddy'd come back soon.
Tomorrow is The Parade!

Hurray! It's the Day!
The Day of the Parade!
The last Monday of May!
The Memorial Day Parade!

We go, every year.
Ohh, it's so exciting!
You told me Daddy'd be here.

You told me every year
All the Daddy's who went away
Some of them come back today!
Daddy might come home to stay!

Let's go Mommy!
Maybe Daddy's in this years parade!
Why are you crying Mommy?
Your shoes hurt again?

So many people everywhere!
They are too tall,
I can't see the Parade.
Mommy, is Daddy here today?

'Every year you grow older,
My Child,
And a little bit taller.'

One of these years,
Mommy says,
I'll be tall enough
To see my Daddy again.

Mommy, why are you crying?

Do your shoes hurt again?
