To Break the Heart of a Child
A poem about the pain of bad childhoods

My soul is empty
lost the innocence within
love that was never given
has been replaced with sorrow

A child you never wanted
a life I did not ask for
pain flows deep
scars only mask it

Words so critical
to terrible to forgive
a child of only five
wounded so intensely

I do not love you
I do not want you
my mothers words to me
foundation of my insecurity

To break the heart of a child
no greater wrong on earth
To break the heart of a child
better to deny them birth
