Gone The brass band continues its steady march The wind shuffles autumn leaves in the grass The sun casts shadows ‘neath sycamore trees Spring flowers’ nectar still tempting the bees Yet something’s changed since We became One Everything’s different now that you’re gone. Once in a while, the rain soaks the ground Lovers rejoicing the love they have found Nettle will sting the skin that it grazes Jubilant mothers study newborn faces All is so normal yet all’s so wrong Everything’s altered now that you’re gone. Mocking birds mimic our cries in the night Time is forgotten with carefree delight The world evolves on its axis, as before Our love cast in stone, lives forevermore Curtains are drawn where once your light shone Everything’s dark here now that you’re gone. Driftwood still washes upon foreign shores Purple-flowered heather adorning the moors Butterflies reveal all of their splendour The truth in our hearts helps us remember: The love that we built has not been undone It’s simply different, now that you’re gone.
