A Treasured Memory

Welcome to my childhood home located in the South mountain of Nova Scotia. It is here where I often visit in memory when my road in life seems too hard to travel. My home was nestled among the dense forest in the mist of Nature's Art Gallery.

Gigantic maple trees lined both sides of the entry, birch, ash and elms mingled all around. A multicolored carpet of russet, mulberry, yellow and gold leaves covered the path. Rays of sunlight winked through the shaded branches of the majestic evergreens to lighten our paths.

Dragon and butterflies flew here and there; Insects and crickets chirped merrily around while the birds and bees sang with perfect harmony. The squirrels, chipmunks and other animals joined in the chorus as nature's orchestra mellowed the air. Wild roses, daisies and wild flowers filled the nostrils with sweet aroma.

Passing through the gallery to the left stood majestic pines and cedars. Heavy spruce branches swept to the ground, fencing my little home all around. A large flat stone was my haven's floor. Small openings were the windows and doors. Old tree stumps provided seats, and wild berries gave us plenty to eat. Often wild animals waltzed and tangled merrily by or they would drop in for a cup of pretend tea. Raccoons, porcupines, deer and the odd bear made their homes near by. They respected my privacy and I theirs. Rabbits would play among the thickets, peeking around to see if I was at home.

Nature provided me with a home filled with peace pleasure and happiness!. It was in this haven that I had the few happy memories in my life. Memories that will always stays with me, even now in my senior years. I thank God for my sweet home on a rock under a tree, a home that's still paradise to me.

Authors Note:
I was very young when death took my mother. My father was left a widower with five young children to care for, and he had no way of being able to go out to work as the youngest was just a baby! I wish my Dad was alive now so I could tell him how I have learned to appreciate him and to thank him for all he did for us! I Loved You Dad BUT I NEVER EVER TOLD YOU !
