A poem about emptiness

All alone
beaten path
no emotion
can't cry, can't laugh
sitting, staring
oh so lame
smiling, glaring
it's all the same
I usually have feelings
usually I'm sane
usually I'd daydream
about dancing in the rain
the water splashing 'round my feet
can't see it in my head
the looks I get from those who pass
now I just sit in bed
don't ask what did this to me
I won't tell you the truth
maybe I'll tell you I just lost
the vivaciousness of youth
seems a decent answer
sounds like an honest lie
quite difficult to disprove
not that you would try
you don't really want to know
the truth would hurt too much
I speak lies as if they're truths
and you take them as such
I do it to protect you
is how I rationalize
spoonfeeding those I love
with oh-so-many lies
truthfully I know though
truthfully I see
you can handle truths
I'm just protecting me
