I Wanted To See An Elephant
A humorous children's poem

I wanted to see an elephant,
So I looked for a circus tent.
My friend and I soon found one
And through the flap we went.
We looked around and found two seats
Right in the very first row.
I sat down beside my friend
And waited for the show.
Before too long the announcer said
That it was time to start.
Four ponies walked on their back legs.
Two dogs pushed a yellow cart.
The acrobats did fancy tricks
And the clowns did funny stuff.
But, I wanted to see an elephant.
So I stood and shouted, "Enough!"
Everyone turned to look at me.
And much to my surprise,
In front of me was an elephant
One hundred times my size.
I looked up at the elephant
And yelled out loud, "Oh, no!"
I wished I'd never gone in there
'Cause he was standing on my toe!
