Hush, Hush

Hush, hush little child
be still where you lay
I’ll tell you a secret
my hugs keep the
bad men away.

I know that you’re scared,
you’re allowed to cry
just know that you’re
safe now and I’ll
tell you why.

That man in your memories
the one that you fear
I know someone like him
another monster from
my own childhood years.

I fought that foul beast
I drove him away
and with me at your back
you’ll do the same
someday.

The nightmares you have
I know how scary they can be
every time you close your eyes
it’s always his face
you see.

It’s his fingers you feel
when you’re alone in the dark
his foreign touch on
your body, his lips
leaving their mark.

But he’s gone little child
I’ve sent him away
he’s not coming back
deep in the past
he will stay.

It’s okay baby nephew
your Aunt is right here
I won’t go away
I’ll help you face
this fear.

I’m sorry I failed you
but never again
because my hugs
and my love drive
away the bad men.
