Throwing the Perfect Birthday Party

Having a birthday party is a really special way of celebrating your child's birthday, but it is vitally important to get it right. Here is a quick guide to throwing the perfect party.

*Bullet*Step away from the herd. Everyone has the common-or-garden "house party", with dressing up and Pass the Parcel. Try something new and unique: how about a parachute jumping party? Perhaps your child would enjoy a trip to the local factory; an enjoyable but also educational party. A real winner is a Craft party: why not teach the guests to make lace, or possibly to knit?

*Bullet*Do not allow your child to write the guest list. All children, however intelligent, have appalling taste in guests. They will certainly invite a horde of noisy, hyper little children sure to eat too much and create phenomenal amounts of mess. Instead, choose the guests yourself, making sure they are suitable companions for your treasured child. Family gatherings are also an excellent idea.

*Bullet*Birthday cake is a terrible idea, whatever entreaties your child may make to the contrary. Despite the size of the gathering or the smallness of the cake, you may be sure that there will be a huge quantity left over which will turn steadily stale and end up being wasted. Instead, why not make a tempting selection of mini-salads for your guests? Healthy and delicious!

*Bullet*Presents are greatly overrated by small children. They create piles of wasted paper, and the average gift is of no real value at all. State on the party invitations that presents are not permitted, and buy your child something useful like a lovely warm jumper or a textbook. That way you are giving them something that will benefit them in times to come.

There are many other pitfalls when it comes to party-planning, but hopefully by following this simple guide you will be able to avoid major catastrophe. Good luck, both with the party and dealing with your child once it is over.
