Tattered Edges
Free verse poem for title prompt "tattered edges"

Peace is her name
to commemorate the end
of the second World War
Her glowing golden center fading
to cream
Her petals arrayed in
prize winning form
Starting at the high proud center
They spiral out
in a silken swirl
blushing modestly
but this bud was not untouched
nor grown under glass
she weathered the elements
and an onslaught of pests
and her lovely countenance bears witness
This perfect glowing rose
has not gone untried
this monumental beauty
this Peace
has tattered edges
