Why do I say
What I do not mean When I choose to talk at all? I say that I hate poetry And then write until nightfall. Why do they say What they do not mean? It's all a show to me. They tell me what they're into And then act differently. Why does she say What she means to me Instead of to whom it counts? A wound can only heal When the pain has been renounced. Why does he say What he really means Only when it hurts to hear? Was he afraid I would dislike him If I heard his fear? Why do we say What we do not mean Day in and day after? It holds us back, it does And keeps us from true laughter. So what is it That holds us back And keeps us from true telling? Trust, that's what. There's never enough And always too much.
