Part two of Neptune, God of the Sea

A Visit with Neptune, God of the Sea

When I was six years old I had just been through the Ceremony for crossing the International Dateline; so after the other people had left, I stood at the railing and looked down. I could see Neptune’s face looking back at me. He motioned me to follow him into his world and I did.

He took me down into the sea and showed me his magical world. There were fish everywhere, in all different colors, some I had never imagined! Corals, seaweeds, and he also introduced me to three mermaids; Joy, Harmony, and Coral, who happened to swim by. They were all smiling and laughing, all so very content with their lives. They all told me stories or “sea” jokes", most of them I couldn’t understand. But I knew I could only stay a little while longer, even though King Neptune had formed an air pocket around me so I could breathe. My mother would be looking for me and when she went to the Captain, “Child Overboard” would ring out and the ship would turn around.

Neptune then gave me a “fly over” his house, which was breathtaking. It was made out of coral, seaweeds and other sea grasses, with things that had fallen overboard off ships during the years. He had put his house together as a growing thing and it was beautiful; with all sorts of colors and objects. As he found new items he worked them into his “growing” home. The house was mostly Patio for use as a gathering place, with only his bedroom behind it. But my trip was drawing to a close, whether I wanted it to or not, so Neptune took my hand and took me back to my ship. He waved as he descended under the sea and I waved back. What a wonderful visit it had been.

I shall never forget my visit with the God of the Sea. He keeps all things in his kingdom in order and the residents are always happy. What a hard calling to have, I thought, but he did a wonderful job of it. Maybe if I am lucky enough Neptune will give me another visit, but I doubt it, since I know that as I grow older I will become busy with other things. I believe that as children we are free of the adult stresses and we have more time to explore different things. But my memories of the visit will remain forever.
