Abandoned heart

Running from a passed
That will never leave.
A passed full of fear and hurt,
A passed full of fun and love,
But to be wiped away
By broken trust and broken promises.

So I go and hide
In the dark shadows
Of this heart
With holes in the roof
And birds in the rafters,
I sit curled up in the corner
Shivering from the cold draft
Coming in from the open door,
Water dripping upon my head
And rats nibbling on my toes,
My clothes all matted
And dirt beneath my cold body,
My hair long and caked with dirt and dust.

So I sit in this abandoned heart,
Waiting for my knight in shinning armor
To ride in and save me,
But in the world of reality
There is no such thing.
So I will sit here and
Wait to save myself.
