How do two new lovers handle the baggage of past relationships?

He comes to her in his grief;
She welcomes him in her sorrow.
They laugh about the good times
When they didn't know tragedy.

He finds hope in her eyes.
She steals strength from his arms.
They cry for the ones they loved,
Who are gone.

He calls her the wrong name
and stops, mid-breath.
A loud silence is completed
By the single tear
That falls down her face.

Like repairs after a storm,
This union will not be easy.
