The Feather

A feather once fell
from the eagle above
and lit upon the ground,
it was seen by the lion
the bear and the elk
as it fell without a sound,
it was found by the man
who understood
the semblance of freedom it bore,
he placed the feather in his hair
where proudly and knowingly wore.

Freedom expresses in many ways
thru symbols we recognize,
the Statue of Liberty,
our own stars and stripes
and the eagle flying so high.
The Indian knew long before we
the gift from that eagle on high,
a simple feather to place in his hair
as he walked beneath freedoms sky.
