I will remember
What my mother will always mean to me

As I begin to close the chapter
Of our life as we know it,
I wonder if you know the
Things I will remember.

I will remember the little things –
The meals you cooked,
The sheets you washed,
The smiles you gave.

I will remember the times that
You tucked me into bed,
Kissed my cheek
And smoothed my hair.

I will remember the times when
You took me out for treats,
To make me smile,
Just because.

I will remember the nights when
You held me, soothed me,
Until I could sleep, because I was
Sick, and I needed you.

I will remember the parties you
Planned for me, my fifth
Birthday, with the fairy castle
Cake and the magician.

I will remember the pink
Piece of paper that you
Blue tacked above my bed,
Just to say ‘I love you.’

I will remember these things,
But most of all,
I will remember the love you gave,
Even when I was bad.

And as I finish this chapter and
Cross into the next blank page,
I will hold tight to the hand
That has always led me,
Safe, back into your arms.
