Thought I Heard Someone Calling My Name
A voice from the woods

I Thought I Heard Someone Calling My Name

I thought I heard someone calling my name,
Or was it the wind in the trees?
Heard it once more, it sounded the same.
A voice floating 'round on the breeze.

I looked around to see who it was,
But nothing came into my sight.
Fear took over and that's because
Daylight gave way to the night.

The ivory moon was soon on the rise
Making shadows that wavered and danced.
Soon there was something in front of my eyes
That left me completely entranced.

A doe and her fawn were under a tree,
She was giving her babe a meal.
The doe turned her head, looked at me,
But I wasn't sure she was real.

The fear I had was melting away
As I watched the doe feed her fawn.
The fawn had his fill and started to play
'Til night gave way to the dawn.

Then, once again, I heard my name,
And this time I felt no fear.
The voice I heard sounded the same,
It was coming straight from the deer.

I suddenly awoke alone in my bed,
With tears welling up in my eyes
I couldn't remember what the doe had said
When the morning sun started to rise.

The memory haunts me, and once in a while,
I hear something calling my name,
I quietly listen and softly smile,
For the voice still sounds the same.
