Shall I Be Happy When I Die?
Shall I be happy when I die? There’s still so much to see! I do not want to say good bye. The world still beckons me. “Could you be happy?” asks the breeze. “So many sounds to hear…” The wind that whispers in the trees Says I must persevere. Must I be happy when I die? There’s much I want to do! To dive the deeps, to sail the sky, How can I say adieu? “You won’t be happy,” says my heart, “Without the one you love. Death means you’ll always be apart Without joy you’ve dreamed of.” Delight in death, I can’t construe. I still have life to live. Since I have shared my heart with you My life’s not mine to give. Shall I be happy when I die? Not if you’re not with me. Then, death is what I must deny Since love I’ve pledged to thee. Together we shall live always Until we part in death. Then when our souls are set ablaze, We shall breathe our last breath. (--written in abab, 8-6-8-6 format)
