A Love Story
Rated: E | Poetry | Romance/Love | #1160238
How I Met My Wife -- And every word of this story is true.
'Tis January twenty-eight.
Tho on my own, I’m feeling great!
In a new town, new job, new life,
This ol' cowboy don't want a wife.

Too much deceit, they only need.
They choke your growth, much like a weed.
But social creature am I still,
A simple date would fit the bill.

Two months in town, I’m yet to find
Someone I want to wine and dine.
A friend suggests I try the net.
He’s kidding, "Sure," I say, but yet...

An hour’s search finds some offers,
Most looking to fill their coffers.
MatchDoc looks good, at least it’s free.
Post a profile, describing me.

I list my wants, my hopes, my dreams.
I give my outlook; how it seems.
Two days go by and not a spark.
Who cares? So what? 'Twas just a lark.

The third day’s sunset starts to pale,
When I hear the voice, “You’ve got mail.”
"Hi, I’m Kathy," says her brief note,
"I really liked the things you wrote."

"Read my profile and then we’ll see,
If you might like to chat with me."
I wrote my thoughts. We’d yet to meet.
Don't like my words? Then hit delete.

Strange things happen in just that way,
We both liked what we had to say.
Day eight finds intros now complete,
Day nine we’d fin'ly get to meet.

A hundred miles, we’d trim it down,
Half way we’d meet on neutral ground.
WalMart seemed a safe enough place.
I left early so I'd not race.

I found her in the tire shop yet,
Getting her tires changed while we met.
We had some coffee, talked a while.
Found myself captured, by her smile.

Picked up her car. Her choice to eat?
Cracker Barrel. Now ain’t that sweet?
A country girl just like she’d said,
This old cow poke hadn’t been misled.

You believe in love at first sight?
I didn’t either 'til that night.
Talked for hours over dinner,
Knew right then, she was a winner.

But wait, my plan to run around,
No strings, no hooks to tie me down?
Too late! I’m hooked...almost landed.
Not a thing was underhanded.

We kissed good night, we'll meet again.
Went to my car, got in, and then...
Heard a song I'd never heard,
Touched my soul with its every word.

George Straight sang it, and my, oh, my!
You heard, Out of a Blue, Clear Sky?
It rocked my world, I tell you sure.
I knew I was in love with her.

I called my sister on my phone,
Told her I was on my way home.
She said, "Great! How was your date?"
"My God, Sis, I have found my mate."

"Hold up, bro', you’re going too fast
Takes time to build...if it’s to last."
"I know that, Sis, but wait, you'll see,
She was created just for me!"

Day thirty-seven changed my life,
That day I asked her, "Be my wife?"
Thirty-four days to wedding date,
We watched the moving hands of fate.

Our rings were "out of stock" on-line.
Our jeweler got them just in time.
Cakes are tough, you must order in time.
Met a baker in cashier’s line.

Minister friend lived far away
His preplanned trip? Not far, that day.
Asked him, "Drive up, seal the vows?"
He didn’t pause, just "Where and how?"

Many small things fell into place.
Each time, we saw God’s smiling face
Six years now, I thank Him above,
Helping me find my One True Love.
