A WISP OF FOG

Evening shadows cast a solemn peace
over the valley as I drove toward home,
slowing as I neared the woodlands,
it was the time that deer would roam.

In the meadow, a doe was grazing
with a small fawn close by her side;
I imagined a stag was watching them,
from a distance, heart filled with pride.

In the beauty of evening, my thoughts
once more turned back to driving on
and for a second I saw him standing
there in the fog, then he was gone.

The doe's head raised, as if to listen
to the urgent warning of the stag to flee;
her white tail lifted as she bounded off,
followed by the fawn, so wild and free.

Nature gives us some special moments,
if we just choose to pause along the way;
what I saw tonight there in a wisp of fog
will forever in my happy memories stay.
