Haunted House
by Doris Ruth Mackey
High on the hill, just outside of town.
Alone, inhabited by ghostly memories.
Unwanted, its history too dreadful.
None of the bodies were ever found.
Time has moved on leaving it behind.
Everyone in the town knows the story,
Deeds most terrible, never avenged.
Home, once to a loving family,
Ordinary people with hopes and dreams.
Unfulfilled, those dreams died one cold night
Screams shattered the darkness, then all was still.
Empty now, it looks down on the town...and waits.
