WAVES
The stars no longer flicker over dreamers in the park, and even though it’s daylight I’m sitting in the dark. The dreams have all but faded into a night that is still – sleep comes very easy to a soul who’s lost his will. You said you always felt so safe whenever I held you tight, so I embraced you often because it felt so right. You say you want to write and you want to stay in touch – but to hear you’re with another would simply hurt too much. I’m standing at the portside of a love who sailed away – I tried to ask her not to go and she refused to stay. So now the waves keep washing all my useless tears to sea – for what’s the good of freedom if you’d rather not be free. © ’78, 2006 Karl Arthur King
