The Dream… ??

I'm wakened from my slumber by a sound within my room.
I'd heard such quiet voices but I didn’t know from whom.

Are flickerings of movement coming from that golden glow?
And melodies are playing in a style from long ago.

I see familiar faces, but I just don't know from where.
My memories seem faded, but I know those folks, I swear!

I think I’ve seen this scene before, but how can that be true?
I sat up in amazement and then suddenly I knew!

From stories, rhymes and fairy tales and legends that I’ve read,
The characters had come to life! They’re dancing by my bed!

An elf bowed to a unicorn. A fairy fluttered by.
The centaur and the gryphon? They had scones and tea nearby.

The fairy feet were dancing. Elven hands were clapping loud.
They danced and sang before my eyes! They were a happy crowd.

The hobbits and the gnomes? They sang a rowdy drinking song.
The werewolf smiled a toothy grin and then he howled along.

The phoenix and the dragon? They took turns at making flame,
The pixies stood by cheering as they watched the blazing game.

I watched it all in disbelief, a tale before my eyes,
But then I sneezed and suddenly…. They looked up in surprise!

They hadn’t known that I was there, but now that I’d been seen,
They rustled, jumped and disappeared like gremlins on caffeine!

The light and music disappeared; there's no sign of a dance.
My room was back the way it was. Had I been in a trance?

Perhaps it all had been a dream. I stretched and shook my head.
I guess I‘d really never know, so I went back to bed.
