A lesson I’ve learned too many times
is one that refuses to take root in my mind.
Everyone lies, most without hesitation.
If in doubt, it’s a sin, but is that not the intention?

We make up our Gods to keep us in line
but some of us strive to avoid the divine.
I’m always inclined to play the part of the fool
though it’s a facade;
                             I know all the rules.

I refuse to make assumptions in fear of mistake.
Beside, why should I do what I, myself, hate?
There are footprints on my back when I’ve laid at Love’s feet.
I’ve come back broken and lost
                                                 -but was never defeat.

And the choices I’ve made in life have been met
with hesitation, raised eyebrows, and faux commendable comments.
I fight the majority to claim my place in this upheaval.
I may stand by my own,
                                       but I’m bound to my free-will.
