When you said you loved me, I believed in you,
wanted to believe that everything you said was true. Yesterday’s promises now discarded and cast aside, like my cold and protective heart, everything has died. When you held me closely, I just knew this was where I belonged, never dreamed that in the end, I would be so wronged. Tears spill down my cheeks as I remember what was done. Like yesterday’s promises, all the love I feel is gone. I won’t forget the happy times, the good ones that we shared, won’t toss away the beautiful memories when I knew you cared. Yesterday’s promises faded like the petals of a wilted rose, but time will alleviate all, ease away my heart’s woes. This poem won Honorable Mention In Kansaspoet's Contest.
