THE STRAWBERRY ROAN
A story/poem of a horse with a mind all his own.

THE STRAWBERRY ROAN

Picture this, the story of a horse that no one could own,
claiming his independence, he was mean to the bone.
He’d kick and he’d bite and no way would abide
a man on his back, thinking him they could ride.

A tornado; a far better choice to ride, or put a rope on
‘cause if you tried to sit this pony, real soon you were gone.
You’d sail through the air, if you were lucky with grace,
meeting up with mother earth, no smile on your face.

He’d buck, he’d turn, twist, then sunfish around and
whoever tried to ride him would hit hard on the ground.
If you’ve guessed that I tried him you’re right enough,
but I was young and foolish, thought I was tough.

I was real lucky that day and didn’t break a bone.
Many riders did, when they tried the strawberry roan.
