MANY MOODS OF CHRISTMAS

THE MANY MOODS OF CHRISTMAS

Six kinds of Christmas come to my mind,
Study them carefully, which is your kind?
Do you worry that others may think ill of you
If you don't spend Christmas just as they do?

There are those who lavish family and friends
With presents and goodies.... their means have no ends
But are they applauded for all that they do
Or merely trying to impress me and you?

There are some trying to keep up with the Jones's
And spend up big taking out Christmas loans
They tell themselves finances are neat
Then take all next year.... the payments to meet.

There are those who can't spend a lot
So forget about Christmas, presents, and what not.
They sit around miserable bemoaning their doom
And don't make efforts to lighten their gloom.

There are those who shout "HUMBUG" ......poor souls
"SCROOGES" of this world who scoff at others' goals.
They miserly count all the money they've had
And frown on poor folk who have times so bad.

There are those scrimping and saving all year
To give friends and neighbours Christmas cheer
But deprive their own loved ones the bulk of the prize
Just to keep up appearances in other folks' eyes

Others count carefully just what is to spare
Spread love and goodwill, showing they care.
They spend out on gifts what they can afford,
And remember 'tis the season to give praise to the Lord.

Take a look at yourself. Are you doing it right?
Are you spending your Christmas as well as you might?
It matters so little if you don't give the best
It's your conscience that must stand the test.
