tomorrow and the next day
when one person dies, leaving the other behind to remember

cemetery songs
sweet salty messages of adieu
a simple quiet prayer
hoping to believe in the goodness of death
and "one day soon" in some afterlife
from ashes to dust
the fertile earth I throw on your grave
will nourish the yellow rosebush
to honor your love of our life
so that tomorrow and the next day
I may wake to golden memories
of our dreams together
as I place a new bud
in its mourning vase
