Imagination and experience... the wellspring from which all writing springs.. each interacting with the other like intricate pieces of a complex clock that when each are weighted right and positioned just so, can produce the most amazing results.
Oh yes there is the example of others to follow, and the footsteps leading away into the immortality of Shakespeare or even some Greek playwright forgotten but for his words.... but these at best provide the ability to sing and not the song itself, the plan from which the monument can be erected, and not the monument itself. But perhaps the pinnacle of all creative endeavors in the world of words (and a large world it is indeed) is that tenuous connection between reader and writer.. that moment of shared experience that taps into the deep inner resources of who we are and produces that moment of light in the darkness.. that illumination of both who we are, what we have become, and what we may become some day.
