Stolen
poem about the end of a relationship

Silence swims an ocean
between us.
With our eyes averted
we don’t acknowledge
what is forthcoming.
A wall is sealed
so we never touch.
You don’t know I am cold.
I don’t know you are gone.
The wind carried away
the scent on your pillow.
Like a thief in the night
we’ve been stolen from ourselves.
You knew me once
I’ve seen inside you before,
but that door has been closed.
Our love is no more.
