Sitting and Waiting

I sit and wait.
Everytime my phone rings my heart beats faster.
I hope to see his name flashing on the screen.
It wasn't supposed to be this way.

I sit and wait.
I wasn't going to wait for a man ever again.
The next man was going to be chasing after me.
It wasn't supposed to be this way.

I sit and wait.
The minutes pass into hours;
The hours into days and days into a week.
It wasn't supposed to be this way.

I sit and wait.
The tears begin to fill my eyes.
My stomach begins to twist and turn.
It wasn't supposed to be this way.

I sit and wait.
The phone rings and his name is on the screen.
The waiting is over and the dread disappears
The call ends and once again, I sit and wait.
