You don't believe I understand How lonely you are...and then again How sad you feel when you talk to me Of your pain and your needs You can't believe I felt like you Scared, alone--unsure what to do You're frightened to believe that I Understand when you need to cry You hesitate to share your grief You're so caught up in your belief That I can't understand your pain Your anger, hurt or even shame You refuse to believe that I know Just how hard it is to grow To become all that you can be Sometimes you wish that you were free Of all the stress of growing up You wish that I would just shut up And leave you alone to pretend You have no one, not even a friend Who cares about what you say or do Who's growing up just like you I know that now you don't believe In time these things from you will flee I love you so--you just can't know I'd do anything to help you grow Into the person you want to be I'll help you set your spirit free I've loved you from the day you were born From the moment I held your tiny form Inside of me the love began I'll love you to the very end No matter what you say or do I'll always be there, standing by you Before I go let me say again You may not know it--but I'm your best friend.
