Happily Ever After

in order to love....you have to believe in love..
When did love become
That amusement park ride
The one you couldn’t wait to get on
But never felt safely strapped into

When did love become
Something you had to have
Only to set at the bottom of your purse
Even after repeated cleanings

When did love become
That painting hanging on the wall
The one nobody liked
But it covered the hole in the plaster perfectly

When did love become
The photograph sitting on your desk
The one you keep looking at
Because you like the frame

When did love become
That feature film you couldn’t wait to see
Only realizing after an hour into it
You wanted to go back up to the concession stand

When did love become
Nothing more
Than a kiss from a prince
To wake you up

When did love become
Something that needed
A beginning, and an end
With nothing in the middle

When did love become
The change
In the bottom of your pocket

When you stopped believing

In yourself…..
