behind the madman's eyes
what happens when one generation of madness engenders a second

behind the madman's eyes
mine, bloodshot
whiskey tainted
the blue veered ugly
a million words
flash like sirens
which I would spit at you
like my own spewing wrists, severed
won't you come to visit?
the nurses are sweet and sexy

imagine my rough blood-covered hands
tightly grasping your lily white neck
dream often of that possibility
for that nightmare has become
vengeance's sweetest craving

I imitate well your warrior's scream
even drunk like a madman
I have never dared to use
my whip, worshiped by my soured might
for the victim is always wrongly pure
I cannot shatter the souls
of the innocent

unlike your rampant insanity,
I offer murmured warnings
danger lurks in blackened nails
binding my hands to the shackles
of your hatred
so wait patiently for my return
one dismal night, hidden
in your darkest foreboding
you'll see your own hell reflecting in my eyes
and I'll whisper jumbled threats
the mirror of your jagged words
but I swear your last one will be
"...madman"

behind the madman's eyes
love no longer blossoms
it was slaughtered years ago
in a slow brutal bonfire
built to cleanse my heart
of the love you couldn't abide
