NEW YEAR'S EVE 2006
'Twas the last day of '06, Not a cloud was in sight, The heat was unbearable, Nine - thirty at night. Humidity was high And tempers were short, The evening's festivities With harsh words were fraught. Then about ten o'clock Heaven opened her door, The rain began falling In buckets and more. The smell of wet earth, The squeals of delight, People soaked to the skin And not a brolly in sight. Too long we had waited For the drought to be o'er, And the dams to be filled. The grass greener once more. Crowds scampered for cover, They'd amassed for the cheer, Of ringing the chimes Of another New Year. Concerts were cancelled, Fireworks were all wet, But nobody cared, 'Twas the best New Year yet. What a wonderful start To the new year '07, We thank God for His blessing, The rain sent from Heaven.
