We Can Still Do It

You can deny it,
but it won't stop if you do.
The ice is cracking,
our winters are far milder
than they used to be.

Plants and wildlife are confused,
strange insects arrive
to startle us in summer
and bacteria
attack foreign shores, once safe.

Yes, you can deny,
can close your eyes to the truth,
but that won't end it.

You can shout “economy”
or stay out of it
instead of taking action
whilst there is still time.

You can sit back, hope and pray,
try ignore the facts;
the next person will solve things.
This leaves our children
to face up to the big mess,
like always, I guess.

Or you can listen, stop, think!
Learn to recycle,
analyse your actions, pause
to look at the world.

Do you need that big new car,
need your private jet?

Look into green energy:
solar power, wind,
water – options are out there.
Take a walk sometimes,
instead of driving around.

And one other thing -
do choose your leaders wisely.

We can still do it.
If we all work together
we can make a change.

Let's save the environment
because if we don't
we're destroying all wildlife.
Nor will humankind survive...

I used the Naga Uta syllable count for this poem - 5 syllables, 7 syllables, 5 syllables, with the poem ending 5 - 7 - 7. Because of the length of the poem, I have broken it up to increase clarity.
