A poem about strength, courage, and finding yourself, your power to survive.

Senses battered, I curled into myself.
My world had shifted.
I lived only to survive, to find peace, to fly.
You found fault with my entire being.
With all that I was, and all that you wouldn't let me be.
At night I prayed for the strength to stand tall,
and not to hide in the shadows.
to leave, and not to look back.
When the day finally came, I wept bitterly.
My tears for the girl you had broken,
but not for the woman I had become.
I had found the force inside me to run,
to fly and rise above you.
I had grown, and courage had given me power.
You may have clipped my wings,
But I can still fly.
