Year of the Turtle

Dear Me,

Resolutions, as you know, are only for the young---they blow away like crumbled leaves before the last bit of New Year's confetti can even be swept away.

For you, no resolutions, then, only a Lorelei summons, old mermaids and sea-creatures calling from the deep, a command to cultivate soulful patience. A request to mind those symbols that sweep the brain, flowing from intuition to ideas.

Weeks before the end-of-the-year madness you stumbled upon a blank journal, beautifully bound and illustrated with turtles. Serendipitously, images and articles of turtles came rushing forward, and you self-proclaimed 2007 the Year of the Turtle.

Turtle is the Mother, beckoning you to honor the wisdom of Goddess energy and abundance, to connect to the Earth, her dance and chain, her breath and rhythm.

Turtle is not rushed or swift. She swims in the subaqueous waters of the subconscious and emerges to bask in the light of everyday life, navigating the mystical and the mundane with equal assurance.

Turtle floats in a cosmic sea. The water becomes a tympanic membrane as She listens to the faintest soul stirrings.

Turtle celebrates interiority and receptive waiting. She knows that the inner authority is the only one that matters. You may feel like running, but life reveals its answers on a stroll.

Cultivate your Turtle voice, the Inner Knower, that vibration that is uniquely yours.

Of course you will write---you cannot do otherwise.

Remember that Turtle, though slow, is well-protected. Protected and earthed---enough to venture forth with at least one monthly submission for publication. Slow and sure, to put together a manuscript for chapbook consideration. Tenacious enough to keep organized records. Well-armoured, to seek out poetry readings---and always pulled by the moon and the tides and submissive to the liminal and sublime.

Enjoy this Year of the Turtle, savor the pleasures of Slow Time.
