This poem was written in 1970. I was living in Toronto, with my brother, at the time and was faced with preparing meals for the first time. I bought a book by Peg Bracken entited the "I Hate To Cook Cookbook". It was very helpful.

To the Author of My Cookbook
To the author of my cookbook
Please accept these words of praise.
I could barely make a sandwich,
now can boil, broil and braise.
Wretched with a pan and skillet,
let alone a double boiler,
now I master fowl and fillet.
My ulcers thank you, wondrous sage.
