The Dusty Road
Rated: E | Poetry | Experience | #1210408
A poem about a person visiting an old road and realizing somethings
Hello beloved old road that I trudged
Ir's been a long time since your dust I touched
The midday wind's begging me to oblige
To the offer that to you I indulge

The stones have not moved since the last time I kicked them
The ditches have not lost the straightened hem
The trees with the chipping bark seem to wave at me
The ocher leaves seem to smile with much glee

The footsteps engraved had been blown away
With the withered  leaves on the limbs that sway
The sight of it I always remembered
The woe of it on my heart ember'd

The trees that waved at me I waved to back
As I walked on the dusty yellow track
The ocher leaves greeted me with a smile
As I went prancing 'round the dusty mile

On the clear ditch I washed my dirty feet
And I sat as there was no one to meet
I then go and walk with my feet muddy
With the dust clinging to my skin ruddy

The small pebbles lying there I kicked
The sugary dust on their faces licked
I kept kicking them every time I walk
The dusty dots on my feet dust like chalk

As I go close to the end of the road
The prickly heat of the sun I have foe'd
The greetings of the friendly trees I've heard
The coolness of the water I have earned

And as the end of my journey comes close
I laugh, cry and smile for God and I know
That another day will come for me to take
The dusty road where life's lessons are made

I have to go now, beloved old road
You have helped me carry every life's load
I will always walk this path till I die
And it is there where I will say goodbye
