Sanctuary

I was the clumsy boy,
built-up shoe, eyeglasses.
Abandoned by parents.
Quarantined by illness.

In youth segregated.
Without trust, direction.
Always falling, beaten.
No place of protection.

A long way from my home.
Alone with my horrors.
I masked my emotions.
I abandoned others.

Inside, the clumsy boy,
old, weak, washed up, wary.
Take my hand, take my heart,
show me sanctuary.
