Inspiration I was pretty much raised barefoot out in the boonies, where the only noises were the birds and the only way to get there was by boat or plane. Along the trails, 4-wheelers were the only mode of transportation, other than your own two feet. Summers were my playgrounds, and I was free from dawn 'til dusk in those long Alaskan days to catch minnows, chase frogs, pick berries, and fish to my little heart's content. No creek was safe from my exploratory toes, no sandbank from my digging fingers. I found untold treasures of rock and feather, and whittled a thousand little boats that I set afloat and watched drift away on green swirls of river water in honor of all the little spirits that inhabit the land and trees. It was, and is, my favorite place in the whole world. The closest town is Skwentna, but that's fifteen miles upriver. If you want to look at a website in the approximate area, go to http://www.bentalitvillageairpark.com. Just look at those pretty lakes and tell me they're not alive. -Sara King http://www.kingfiction.com
