Valentines Day and Romance 2007
Editor: Princess Megan Rose Princess Megan Rose 10 Years
Assistant Editor:Angel Angel

Hello Everyone! Megan and Angel here. How are you? In Indiana and Illinois, it is cold and it has snowed almost every day for a week. Winter got a late start. Angel is still doing her beautiful art designs and I am trying to stay warm. Can you believe it will soon be Valentines Day? That means love and romance. So, we decided to write about love and romance. We will talk about writing genres of romance. Grab your favorite drink and think romance and we will get started.

Romance. Love. They go together especially on Valentines Day. The day for lovers.Think of Romeo and Juilet. Jack and Rose. Scarlett and Rhett. Catherine and Heathcliff. These are some of everyone's favorite lovers. Anyone who writes romance wishes they could have written these romances. When you write a romance, keep these romance genres in mind.

Medieval Romance: Megan's favorite. I love romances about Princesses, Queens, Knights and Princes. Pirates, peasants and gypsies play a big role in this. They fell in love with others in the royalty class. This is what fairy tales are made of. The Princess falls in love or a Prince falls in love and they live happily ever after. At least as writers, we make them live happily ever. I would have loved to live in a castle and have my Knight carry me away on a big white horse. Fantasy comes into mind here. Unicorns, fairies, dragons add a magic touch to these. In case you haven't guessed, this is mine. Megan's romance genre.

Historical Romance: Novels written prior to World War 2. Maybe you can write about a romance in World War 1. Maybe you wish to write about turn of the century romance. Like a romance aboard the Titanic. Yes, it has been done already beautifully by James Cameron. You can think of a romance of your own. Like another ship board romance. A war story romance. A soldier falls in love with a woman he leaves behind to go to war. Does the soldier come home and live happily ever after or leave a grieving lover behind because he was a hero and was killed in the war? You as the writer, decide his fate.

Regency Romance: 1811-1820 Era in England. Short to medium novels about romances of this time. They may be about a high society woman falls in love with a pirate or someone of her own class. Usually, the male acts like he has no interest in love but this changes when he meets a beautiful woman and the course of true love never runs smoothly. The woman can also be a hard to tame woman but she really wants love, too and can't resist a handsome man. Can any woman?

Gothic: Medium length novels involving a suspense romance novel with a mystery in a historical setting. Like Jane Erye and Wuthering Heights. Jane Erye learns her lover has his mentally ill wife locked in the attic of his mansion and the jealous wife almosts kills the lovers. Wuthering Heights, Catherine marries someone else and dies in child birth and comes back as a ghost to kill Heathcliff so that they can be together forever.

Supernatural: Twilight. A vampire falls in love with a human. A werewolf falls in love with a human. Edward and Bella. Jacob and Bella. Love takes on any form. Women seem drawn to vampires. Like in Dark Shadows with Barnabas. All women loved Barnabas. In Vampire Diaries, you have Damon and Stefan and Alena. Vampires. Maybe it's the eyes, fangs or sexy voice. A human feels sorry for the vampire and love happens. With a vampire if he or says they will love you forever, they mean it. Vampires live forever. How can love be any better then that?

Contempary: Modern day romances. Lovers go to movies, dinners, have cell phones and maybe they met on the internet. Maybe they met at their jobs or work on a ranch. Maybe they met while helping a wounded animal. Maybe they met at a night club or on a cruise. Maybe 9-11 bought them together. The possiblities to write a romance are endless.

Inspirational and Christian: Romances that avoid talking or writing about sex. You use your imagination for these details. You can write about the love felt between the lovers though.

Alternative Reality: Romances involving werewolves, vampires, angels, witches and time travel. I thrive on these things. The supernatural involves a lot of imagination and this makes the writers think and prove how far their imaginations will go to write these romances.

You can also write romances that have humour. The woman is always falling down and a man falls in love with her and they have a humourous life. Ethnic couples are common in this day and age. Mixed couples like: blacks and whites, Hispanics, Oriental and other nationalities having relationships. Love has no limits. Love is shared among all living creatures.

When you write romance, the main ingredient is love. Bear that in mind and write a romance and with the genres above. you and your romantic couples can go anywhere. Write with passion and write from the heart To read romance stories that I have written, check out my short stories and Medieval Women Folders. .

Angel and I hope you have enjoyed reading this newsletter about romance.

We will be back in March or April. E-mail us with any writing ideas or anything you would like to see in the newsletters. Think Spring and think romance! Love: Megan and Angel
