It's been over six months of extensive Writing.com basic training for this newbie and now I'm a'ready for battle -- though I've seen my share of action since I first introduced myself in various forums way back when...
I have participated in many contests, review forums and groups, including the Angel Army of which I am a proud member. Over 16-hundred-30 reviews have been generated from my port and I had a great many reviewers return the favor.
What I've enjoyed most these past six months: The auctions, fundraisers and an upgrade to help other members to continue as active participants; community recognition that included merit badges and awardicons for my writing; friendships that have enriched and raised the level of my writing experience.
But I didn't make the most of it to get the fullest experience. In my blind zeal to be the best that I can be, I overlooked some obstacles that I allowed to deter me along the way.
There are a great many rules to be considerate of. I could have used a mentor early on to explain some of the things to look out for. You can easily offend someone without trying. You can easily be offended, if you don't understand how this site functions.
If you are new here, seek out advice from groups for newbies whenever in doubt. Try to avoid misunderstandings and forge relationships that will allow you to fit in as a member. But keep your goals first and help others when you can. You will find the rewards will come to you, if you have the best of intentions. If you're tempted to follow those carrots and not get the desired result from that craving, you will feel very dissatisfied with yourself. If you put yourself first, everyone wins.
