THE SLAYER OF SPENCERVILLE

Darkness spread over Spencerville. The raindrops became more powerful than before. Leaves were flying in all directions while the wind blew with a whistling sound. It was very cold outside. The moon cast a silvery shadow on the streets and the sea. Thunder began to boom in the grey sky with jolts of lightning appearing now and then. Except for the storm everything was quiet. The neighborhood people were sound asleep in their warm beds. It was about midnight and not a soul was in sight at this time of night. Well, almost no one. See, there was this teenage girl with magnificent powers. She had an ability to kill the bad guys, and get out alive. These guys were not human beings. Well, they were at one time. Now they are vampires, demons, and other supernatural creatures. You name it and the girl could kill it. Everyone feared her. Everyone from the dead that is. She was the vampire slayer, of course. The chosen one in all the world to battle the forces of evil and darkness. So on this stormy full moon night, the vampire slayer was on nightly patrol guarding the city from the unwanted intruders from the underworld, the mean, hungry, blood-sucking demons and vampires. Even though they were all afraid of her, the creatures still roamed the night thinking that they could knock the slayer down. Wrong! No one could ever knock the slayer down. Even if she was battling a whole pack of them, she would still prevail. See, vampires and other creatures wanted to rule the world and she had a duty to stop that from happening. She also had an obligation to save the lives of innocent people even if it meant getting hurt. So, Faith was the vampire slayer and could sense anything out of the ordinary because of her special ability.

Like right now, she sensed that something was brewing in the cemetery near Elm Street. She quickened her pace and grabbed the wooden stake tightly in her hand. Another one was stuffed inside her jacket pocket. Nearing the Creek Cemetery she heard noises and some type of discussion going on. She crept up to the entrance gate and saw a herd of vampires and demons huddled together. The group was talking over where they would go first. The leader of the pack, Spike, was addressing his followers in a loud voice. "Listen up now! We will start with the Elm Street folks. They are the closest to us and I'm very hungry. Haven't eaten in days. Now each of you get me someone to eat and bring the bastards to the cemetery. Go and hurry up. I will be waiting and you know that I hate waiting too long. If either of you are not back in twenty minutes your pathetic little heads will be chopped off. Got that?"

"Yes master!" they chanted in unison.

"Go!" yelled Spike.

"No you are not!" shouted Faith as she made a flip in the air lending right in the middle of the pack with stake in hand. "Come on. Don't you want a piece of me? Come and get me. I'm all yours."

As the stupid vampires launched at Faith, she kicked each and everyone of them and drew a stake straight into their small hearts. No one else was going to eat her or kill her. Never! There seemed to be too many of them coming in all directions, and Faith was getting tired. She wouldn't quit though. The town depended on her even if people did not know who she was. To them she was a regular teenage girl going to high school with her friends. It was okay that they didn't know. Actually it was required that she not tell anyone about being the slayer. No one else was supposed to know about this but her watcher. It was hard keeping this secret from her mother. She used up all of her excuses for going out of the house at night, sometimes skipping school and practically hardly having time for anything else like her mother and daughter bonding.

Taking in a deep breath the slayer kept on fighting until the only one left was Spike. He was very angry and she could see that. She had to make sure that he was dead too. That wouldn't be a problem for Faith. She killed vampire leaders before. This one was just like the previous ones. The only trouble was that he was tricky. He liked to play hide and seek. See, while she finished off the last herd of vampires, Spike jumped on top of the monument hidden behind the tree. She looked for him and was unable to see him standing there. Her instincts though told her that he was hiding somewhere in the cemetery.

"Hey Spike, stop playing hide and seek. Just get over here damn it so I can kill you once and for all!" proclaimed Faith.

"Ain't no way in bloody hell will I do that. You think I'm dumb as those bastards were. Well, think again," yelled Spike and with that launched at Faith. Caught of guard she fell to the ground. Spike grabbed one of her stakes and was about to kill her. Gathering up her strength she kicked him in the stomach with the heel of her shoe and shouted as he fell a couple of feet away from her dropping the stake. "You better run before I change my mind!" And so Spike did just that. Running as fast as he could Spike disappeared into the distance and soon was out of sight.

"What a night," thought Faith, "Too many vampires tonight. Why were there so many of them anyways? I guess I have to ask Jones about that." Usually when there were too many vampires, something was definitely up. She and her watcher Jones would surely figure it out one way or another. Now though she didn't care. That would have to be done the next day. Right now all that Faith wanted was to take a cold shower and hop into bed. Tomorrow she had to go to Spencerville High. Looking at her watch it was three in the morning. She only had four hours left before school started. By the time she got home it would be 4 A.M. and two hours left before getting up. "Oh well!" exclaimed Faith, "Nothing new here! I always have a nightly job whether I want to or not. The only difference is that I don't get paid for it." Laughing to herself she turned the corner of Oak Street and disappeared into the distance.

The storm had calmed down and the sky though dark was clear of grey clouds. There were still puddles on the ground and everything was wet. The wind was quietly blowing. No more thunder and lightning could be heard. Tomorrow would be a nice day, warm and sunny, just the way people liked it. The vampire activity whether light or not would still go on through the night and Faith would have to return to her nightly patrol duty as always...
