Once I was walking in the shadows And all around me invisible hands Reached out to grab me. "Help, help!" I cried out. In the distance I thought I heard something, But when I looked around I could see naught. I walked along a little further; The shadows grew a little taller; A little denser, a little darker; "Help, help!" I cried, And just for a moment I thought I heard a whisper But as I stopped and looked around I could see naught. As I continued my walk The shadows surrounded me more quickly, They were darker--scarier; I thought I would die there in the shadows. "Oh Lord, please help me," I cried out; My head bowed down in prayer And as I was praying I heard a sound, Faint at first But as I continued to pray, The sound came closer--stronger Until it sounded as though it were beside me. "Here I am," I heard, "I am here with you Follow me and I will take you out of the shadows." I looked around, but could see naught. "Where are you?" I cried, For I could see nothing. Then I felt it, The comforting touch of a hand on mine. "Here I am," I heard again-- And at that moment I knew-- I knew that God was with me, And I was comforted As He led me Out of the Shadows.
